Convicted murderer arrested after absconding in Belfast

A convicted murderer has been arrested in the Antrim area after he absconded from custody in Belfast city centre while accompanied on temporary release.

32-year-old Christopher Kerr is currently serving a prison sentence for the murder of 15-year-old Michael McIlveen in Ballymena in 2006.

The PSNI issued a warning saying that Kerr was considered dangerous and should not be approached.

The Northern Ireland Prison Service said that an investigation will be carried out into the circumstances of the abscondment.
